Summary

The highly anticipated debut book of poetry from Lana Del Rey。

"Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass is the title poem of the book and the first poem I wrote of many。 Some of which came to me in their entirety, which I dictated and then typed out, and some that I worked laboriously picking apart each word to make the perfect poem。 They are eclectic and honest and not trying to be anything other than what they are and for that reason I'm proud of them, especially because the spirit in which they were written was very authentic。" – Lana Del Rey

Lana's breathtaking first book solidifies her further as "the essential writer of her times" (The Atlantic)。 This beautiful hardcover edition showcases Lana's typewritten manuscript pages alongside her original photography。 The result is an extraordinary poetic landscape that reflects the unguarded spirit of its creator。

i was curious to read this because i loved LDR’s music but this is somewhat strange。 though i enjoyed some parts (never to heaven), the other parts i find difficult to understand, not in a shakespeare or in an edgar allan poe type of way but in a “girl what is she saying?” type of way。 the way she uses words to her experiences is really pretty though。

While some poems are worth reading, it's not an exceptional book of poetry overall, because most of the texts are shallow and ordinary。 It's interesting primarily as a book written by Lana Del Rey。 Moreover, it was partly illustrated by her as well! What I liked about Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass was the return of melancholia that, in my opinion, was missing in Lana's albums released after Honeymoon。 Her thoughts and feelings are intertwined with places and cultural references, the best e While some poems are worth reading, it's not an exceptional book of poetry overall, because most of the texts are shallow and ordinary。 It's interesting primarily as a book written by Lana Del Rey。 Moreover, it was partly illustrated by her as well! What I liked about Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass was the return of melancholia that, in my opinion, was missing in Lana's albums released after Honeymoon。 Her thoughts and feelings are intertwined with places and cultural references, the best example being an ode to LA, LA Who Am I to Love You, or The Land of 1,000 Fires。 Some words crossed out or added in hand is a nice touch。 What I hated about this book are haikus。 I really can't understand the urge to write dull and terrible haikus。 Lana's haikus are 5 / 7 / 5 formulas with no real content one usually expects from a haiku。 。。。more

i genuinely don’t know how to rate poetry but this feels like it doesn’t deserve no more than 3 stars。

Är drabbad och besatt。 Gjorde så ont att läsa något så vackert, starkt och romantiskt。 Blev inspirerad till att leva

I don't normally read poetry but I decided to give this a try。 I mostly read this because it was by Lana Del Rey and I was curious to see what this was like。 It was a short and easy listen。 It wasn't my favorite but I also didn't hate it。 I don't normally read poetry but I decided to give this a try。 I mostly read this because it was by Lana Del Rey and I was curious to see what this was like。 It was a short and easy listen。 It wasn't my favorite but I also didn't hate it。 。。。more

She's just beautiful inside and out。 I'm not a poet, and I surely don't know much about the dos and don'ts of poetry。 All I can say is that this book made me feel peace, and that's all that matters。 She's just beautiful inside and out。 I'm not a poet, and I surely don't know much about the dos and don'ts of poetry。 All I can say is that this book made me feel peace, and that's all that matters。 。。。more

I always loved Lana del Rey as a singer and song writer, I like the way she puts words into a very nostalgic mood。 I was still a little disappointed as it can be hard to feel emotions from her texts sometimes。

I think the book is very Lana-Del-Rey-ish, the poems show her styles and how capable of her to be a poet。 I can feel the soul of the writer who is a gentle, feminine and strong woman。 If you've loved her songs already, you'll love this book。 But in my opinion, I'd love to read more her poems and there're a bit much photos。 Moreover, anybody feel like 1/3 last part is kinda plain and perfunctory written?

I’m not a big poetry person, but I am a big fan of Lana Del Rey so I thought I’d give this a try。 Some were nice to read, but others were a little ramble-y。 Overall I did enjoy reading it。 The photos throughout the book weren’t the typical ones I would expect to see in a poetry book, but fit her style。 If you are a a fan of hers, I’m sure you would enjoy this book。

scottwiv

Listened to the audiobook version because the only way I could possibly maintain interest is with her sultry voice。 The poetry is whatever I suppose, at worst cringe。

Meh。 Some poems were ok, specially the ones that narrated a short story。 Didn’t care for the political ones, or the proud ‘Muricans ones or the Haikus。

Miss Grant is a poet。 A sad poet。 A romantic poet。 A tragic poet。 A talented poet。 Simply and plainly a POET。
